The title refers to the scientific community’s frustration with the Trump administration for politicizing and mismanaging the pandemic — its ignoring, denying, or misreporting of science while muffling and vilifying scientists, all for political gain, which made it impossible for the scientific and medical communities to properly guide the pandemic response so as to reduce both contagion and fatalities — and for failing to act to curb climate change — choosing to cater to corporate interests instead — a frustration that culminated in Scientific American magazine’s endorsement of former Vice President Joe Biden’s candidacy for the presidency — marking the first time in the magazine’s 175-year history that it had taken sides in a political campaign.
