A Year Out The Window
You’re the right color, and that goes a long way. (Retiro Way #10-4)
The title is a quote from Lewis Carroll’s Through The Looking-Glass, and the subtitle’s number refers to the phrase “ten four,” which stands for “affirmative,” “ok,” or “got it” in CB-radio code. Together, they are meant as a reference to the fact that, in our society, Caucasian “whiteness” is generally equated with “rightness”, and as such has historically received, and continues receiving, unearned advantages — in education, in income, in safety, in advancement, in regard, in representation — denied to those with darker shades of skin color.
